The birth of the Naga City “Cariñosa” Jaycees in 1993 was a realization of an idea conceived a decade earlier by the Naga City Jaycees, inspired by their belief in the significant role of young women in society.
Much of the groundwork for the formation was laid down by a committee headed by JC Roy Principe, he was ably guided and fully supported of the incumbent Naga CityJaycees NVP Pete Servano, Naga City Jaycee Senate President Aquiles Lo, and Area III Incoming NEVP Nilo Aureus.
After a series of pre-organizational meetings and orientation seminars, twenty- eight (28) highly motivated
women professionals were installed as charter members. The name “Cariñosa” was adopted, this being an acknowledged distinctive trait of a Bicolana. The new chapter was affiliated with the philippine
Jaycees in September 1993.
Past Presidents of the Naga City “Cariñosa” Jaycees included the following: JC Analain Villarin and JC Rosalia Vivien Maninang (1993-1994), JC Lucille Principe (1994-1995),JC Ma. Cecilia Magtuto (1995-1996),
JC Ma. Soledad Magtuto (1996-1997), JC Fe Federis-Schrottman (1997-1998), and JC Ma. Celestina Manlangit-Tam and JC Juvy Emma Aguilar (1998-1999).
Through their remarkable achievements within a span of six (6) years, The Naga City “Cariñosa” Jaycees have already made their mark and established a niche in the Jaycee Community. Their membership has considerably grown; they have successfully sponsored fund-raising projects which have supported
their various internal and external programs; traditional projects have been put in place- “The Outstanding Young Women of Naga City” a yearly search conducted to give recognition to young women professionals
with outstanding achievements in their chosen fields, “Orolay Ning Kababaehan”, a weekly radio program tackling various issues concerning women, and the “patak Aso, Ligtas Tao”, an anti-rabies campaign in
the different barangays of Naga City. Aside from such projects, the organization has constantly been initiating new projects suited to the needs of the community. These include stress management
seminars, medical-dental missions, and tree-planting activities. They have also supported various national projects of the Philippine Jaycees such as the “Youth Leadership Excellence Award” (YLEA) given to
exemplary graduating elementary and high school Students, The “Voice of Philippine Democracy”, an oratorical contest and the “Search for the Outstanding Policemen of the Philippines”
To foster understanding and brotherhood, the “cariñosa” Jaycees has established twinning relationships with other Jaycee Chapters- the Silang “Pasimuno” Jaycees, the Cebu Jaycees, Legazpi Jaycees, Cagayan de Oro Jaycees and Dagupan “Bangus” Jaycees.
The accomplishments of the “Cariñosa” Jaycees demonstrate the steadfast committment to the vision, mission and values of the Jaycees. The distinction that the “Cariñosa” Jaycees have earned in the community proves that the spirit of Jayceeism is alive and growing among the
young women of Naga City. |
